Enfield Residents Action Committee
Updated: 23 February, 2024
We recently met Shirin Ford, a local Enfield hero who is committed to reducing crime in the area by cooking up regular feasts and holding get-togethers for the locals.
Passionate about the community
The Enfield Residents Action Committee is run by Shirin Ford, an Enfield resident passionate about bringing communities together to tackle local issues.
As soon as we met Shirin, the dedication for this committee was evident. She was so enthusiastic explaining all of her plans to us, and has a mind brimming with ideas. She strives to make her community a better place for the residents, working closely with Enfield Council and local MPs to address issues including getting kids out of crime and violence, improving local parks to make them accessible and friendly for children with disabilities, and remodelling the appearance of her local streets to make them feel safer for the residents.
Shirin is a prominent figure in her community, and has remained so even throughout the pandemic. She went around knocking on doors in the 15 streets she looks after in the EN3 area, looking out for residents and assisting with food shopping if needed. Her work is so important, to encourage diverse cultures to feel valued within her community and share ideas on how to approach issues.
Back up and running!
In 2016, the committee consisted of 3 streets around Shirin’s area, who came together through summer BBQ’s and ‘Christmas in the street’ events to mix with the people in their community and make them feel valued. Since the pandemic, these events haven’t been able to happen…until now. And with 15 streets under her wing now, it had to be a big deal.
Chicken curry for an army
When we heard about the fantastic work Shirin has done, we definitely wanted to get involved! JJ Foodservice donated a variety of products including chicken breasts, burgers, sausages, marinated chicken shish and chicken wings to put on a fantastic spread for her community.
The event took place on the 5th of December, with lots of residents in attendance, including members of Enfield Council. Despite the rain, it was a great turn out, with the community queuing up to get a taste of the food. They cooked up a huge chicken curry using our halal chicken breasts, as well as a BBQ feast using JJ’s burger and sausages, and lots of chicken with 3 different marinades!
The food went down a treat with everyone and we were so glad we were able to contribute to this incredible cause.
Thank you for your contribution to the community, Shirin.
