Classic Hummus

Hummus is a picnic staple and making it at home is a breeze. Simply blend a can of drained chickpeas, a couple of tablespoons of tahini, a clove of garlic, the juice of one and a half lemons and four tablespoons of olive oil. Season with salt and pepper to taste, and blend until smooth. Serve with pita bread, carrot sticks, or cucumber slices for a healthy, satisfying dip.

Top Tip: Instead of water – use the liquid from the chickpeas for an extra smooth texture

Spinach and Artichoke Dip

Warm, cheesy, and absolutely irresistible, spinach and artichoke dip is always a crowd-pleaser. In a bowl, mix a cup of sour cream, a cup of mayonnaise, a cup of grated Parmesan cheese, and a cup of shredded mozzarella. Stir in a cup of chopped spinach and a can of drained artichoke hearts. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for about 25 minutes or until bubbly and golden. Let it cool slightly before packing it in a thermal container to keep it warm at your picnic.

Smoky Black Bean Dip

For a hearty, smoky option, blend a can of drained black beans, a couple of tablespoons of lime juice, a clove of garlic, and a teaspoon of smoked paprika. Add salt and pepper to taste and blend until smooth. For some extra texture, stir in some chopped cilantro and diced red onion.
