The NEW Indoor Dining – What to Expect
Updated: 23 February, 2024
Hospitality venues across the UK have finally opened for indoor dining so step away from that cooker and go support your locals!
Here’s the latest rules and some interesting facts for your first trip out.
What are the rules for pubs and restaurants in England?
  1. Indoor dining is allowed for groups of up to six, or two households of any size
  2. If you would like to dine outside, your group can have a maximum of 30 people
  3. You must still wear face coverings when walking to tables or toilets
  4. You do not need to order a ‘substantial meal’ with alcohol – cheers to that!
  5. Social distancing between groups is still encouraged
  6. Your restaurant’s capacity may be restricted due to social distancing and table service so make sure you book in advance to avoid disappointment.
Consumers are planning to eat out more!
You might be interested to learn that being stuck in lockdown has increased everyone’s appetites for eating out! 2021 is looking to be a busy one for UK hospitality with 39% of Brits planning to eat out more compared with 2019, according to CGA.
78% of people will be dining out at least twice a month.
Pub grub was the most missed!
Have you been fantasising about fajitas? Praying for pies? Apparently, you’re not alone. The food that people missed the most during lockdown was comforting pub grub.
60% of consumers voted for pub food, followed by Indian, Italian, and Chinese cuisines, according to Aviko.
Quality, service and safety come first
Quality beats cost when it comes to deciding where to dine, followed by service.
So don’t worry about the bill – think more about what Google and Trust Pilot reviews and ratings your local has.
Safety was rated the third most important factor in choosing where to eat.
Your local should be keeping you fully informed of health and safety practices and you’ll be glad to know that an increasing number of places are starting to use QR codes, allowing orders and payments to be made online even when dining in.
That means no more waiting around for bills and less social contact – winner!
The government hopes to lift all restrictions from 21 June.
