Getting Ready to Re-Open –Our Top Tips for Restaurants
Updated: 23 February, 2024
The Government has today announced new long-awaited measures that will allow restaurants and pubs to re-open, safely.
Our team want to make sure our customers have everything they need to get up and running successfully – so we’ve prepared a few tips.
Step 1. Managing Social Distancing
Under the new rules, social distancing has been relaxed to one metre plus and restaurants, pubs, bars and cafes can re-open from the 4th July 2020 if the new COVID19 guidelines can be met.
Step 2. Restoring Consumer Confidence
Restaurants will need to work hard to re-assure their customers that it’s safe to return. With that in mind, last week, the AA launched a new COVID Confidence accreditation which sets out standards that food outlets must comply with. This includes:
  1. Staff training
  2. Safety measures
  3. Risk assessments
Displaying the accreditation on your website, in your restaurant and on your social media could help to restore customers’ confidence in you. Apply for COVID Confidence Accreditation
Step 3. Deep Cleaning and Hygiene
If your restaurant has been inactive for a long period of time, you may need to invest in a deep clean. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) advises extra staff, food and equipment checks alongside usual checks.
  1. Check out this FSA re-opening checklist
  2. Stock up on Cleaning Products
Step 4. Refreshing Your Menu
Every good restaurant owner knows that to stay profitable, it’s important to ensure that everything on the menu is worth being there and is pulling its weight. Now could be a good time to shake up and streamline your menu.
  1. Prioritise the highest-margin, best sellers
  2. Consider popular proteins like chicken
  3. Capitalise on promotions – check out our Restaurant Deals
Step 5. Reducing Food Waste
It’s difficult to know how busy things will be when your doors open, which makes it more important to pay attention to waste.
Food waste generated by restaurants and takeaways increased by a huge £16.7m over the lockdown period, due to unpredictable consumers.
Here’s a few ways to limit waste and boost your bottom line.
  1. Support portion control with Individually Quick Frozen options
  2. Try Frozen fruit and veg, it can have just as many vitamins as fresh
  3. Check out our Frozen Fish and Seafood
Step 6. Support with Cashflow
We understand how hard it currently is for independent caterers to manage cashflow. That’s why we are offering all our customers the JJ Foodservice Credit Card.
•    Get 56 days to pay for your orders
•    Up to £50,0000 interest-free credit
•    Apply for a Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan
